Since the summer of 2021, the Slav Epic has been displayed at the chateau in the town of Moravský Krumlov.
The Slav Epic
The painter Alfons Mucha spent eighteen years (1910-1928) working on a cycle of twenty monumental canvases which he called The Slav Epic. He devoted it to the Czech nation. However, a nation is not an institution, and therefore Mucha bestowed the cycle upon the City of Prague.
The Slav Epic as a whole, was introduced to the public for the first time at the Trade Fair Palace in Prague in 1928. During World War II, the canvases were stored at the chateau in Slatiňany. In the 50´s, they were transported to the chateau in Moravský Krumlov, where the Epic was on display from 1963 to 2011. For a few years, the Slav Epic was exhibited in the Trade Fair Palace in Prague. In 2017, people in the Japanese town of Tokio could admire the work by the Czech artist. The exhibition was an incredible success. After a 10-year-break, The Slav Epic returned to Moravský Krumlov in the summer of 2021.
Come and see it, the experience is well worth it!
