The first foundations of Hardegg fortress are from beginning of the 12th century. The Castle is situated on the banks of the Dyje river on the Moravian border and the smallest city of Austria. The castle has to protect the country against attacks from the Northside. With its 600-meter radius was this castle one of the mightiest in Lower-Austria. It once had seven gates and five towers.
